Is getting a psychic reading the equivalent of the Original Sin?

Has it ever occurred to you, that getting psychic readings is the equivalent of the original sin? Not to go all Christian on you, but I thought it was really interesting food for thought (pun intended). (I do want to emphasize here that this 12-step program is for any belief system, as long as you believe in God as a higher power in some understanding.)

Been a while since Bible school? Let me remind you:

The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

Here, God warns people not to eat of the tree of knowledge - warning of "death". Adam and Eve didn't die physically - but they did die spiritually as they suddenly knew shame.

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

Here, the serpent is basically justifying eating from the tree of knowledge, saying the only reason we are told not to is so that we don't know as much as God does, or the Higher Power. So it's wanting to Know - the ultimately outcome - get a leg up on Life and the people we encounter in it - that is really t he sin.

When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it.

Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”

The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Then as we know Adam and Eve get punished and kicked out of Eden. It's the Fall from Grace.

...so bringing us back to the present.

It kind of is relatable, right? We want to *know* what's going to happen, and it doesn't look that bad, in fact it's attractive, the idea that we could know the outcome of the relationship, or the break up, or the job interview, or the client deal. Basically, we want to be omniscient about this one tiny area. And that's God territory.

On the flip side, when you see how many times people have been let down by the ultimate outcome, with the only thing to show for it a much lower bank account or a much higher credit card statement, and a really hard lesson in life, ... you see how we, too, fall from "grace". How many ignorance really *was* bliss.

But we can make a different choice and get our lives back on track. We can encourage others in other coping mechanisms, we can serve as warnings of what may be to come, because no psychic will ever tell you "I'm getting a sense that...if you keep calling psychics... you will may end up broke and ...still single".

And here's the kicker... I don't necessarily think psychics don't have talent. In fact I think some definitely do. But, if your "happy ending" is going to happen, if you really do get that outcome, then you will get it either way. And if you can manage to stop calling and distract yourself ... you'll be richer AND less ashamed AND you get your happy ending!

So really, win win.
